How To Remove A Red Wine Stain From Upholstery.

Method 1: 

Step 1:  If you require to know how to remove a red wine stain from upholstery fabric, follow these easy steps: If the stain has just happened to try to blot up as much of the red wine as possible, but be careful not to spread the stain any further.

Step 2:  Try some white wine ( if available) to blot the stain with a clean white cloth. Alternatively, sprinkle with salt/ baking/bicarbonate soda.  Allow the liquid to be absorbed; now, vacuum-up the salt/baking /bicarbonate.

Step 3:   Mix a solution of two cups of water and one tablespoon washing up liquid. Next, blot, tamp at the stain until the stain has diminished/gone.

Step 4:  Repeat steps 3 & 4 until the stain (s) are removed from the upholstery fabric.

Step 5:   Now that most of the stain is removed you should use some cold water and a clean cloth and sponge the area to remove the cleaning solution, and then blot dry allow the area to dry naturally or by hair drier. 

Helpful Hint: Be sure to get the upholstery/carpet only as wet as is necessary to remove the stain.

The above method does work reasonably well and will diminish the red wine stain significantly. However, there may be a ‘shadow’ of a stain left behind which may require a more advanced removal technique; therefore try  Method 2:  Whereby an alternative solution is to try some hydrogen peroxide with an equal amount washing-up liquid that has an oxidizing effect, e.g. ‘Vanish Gold Oxi-Action’. This second method is more appropriate if the stain has remained and allowed to dry-in for a period of time!

Advisory Notes:  The use of hydrogen peroxide on natural fibers is not recommended, e.g wool: This may cause bleach marks in this type of natural fiber. If the above methods are unsuccessful or the stain has dried-in you should consider the advice of a specialist.
